VANISH

Playwright, Alison Mann has researched the stories of birth mothers with the support of VANISH (Victorian Adoption Network for Information and Self Help). The impetus behind writing the play was to represent the continuing effects of adoption on the lives of birth mothers. Emotions of loss, grief, shame and guilt experienced at the time of adoption are a constant throughout the lives of some birth mothers. In She's Not Performing, the central character of Margarite grapples with her own mental health, transitory and dysfunctional relationships and self harm. Whilst confronting, the play acknowledges the reality of the impact of adoption and aims to promote discussion and understanding as often this subject is surrounded by silence and misunderstanding.

It is through the support and cooperation with VANISH that we present to you 'She's Not Performing'.

VANISH are a Melbourne based organization funded by the Victorian Government which provide services to

- people affected by adoption

- people affected by donor conception

- forgotten Australians (former wards of the state)
